Photo Friday

Genets are adorable and about the size of a house cat, but don’t mistake them for pets. Relatives of the mongoose and cat, they can often be found scavenging around human habitats for food. Some are quite forward, coming onto porches and balconies to beg for dinner. They aren’t generally aggressive toward humans, but don’t try to pet one — it might think you’re attacking it and try to defend itself, although more likely it will just run away. This photo of a genet was taken in the Masai Mara by Kathryn Kingsbury on an Ujuzi safari to Kenya.
