For those who think travel is a vacation from a healthy lifestyle, think again with a Pilates safari. Mona Melms, certified personal trainer and Pilates instructor, is leading a Pilates safari to Kenya September 18 – 27, 2012. Information can be found on the Pilates Safari website.
Genevieve Schmitt, a participant on the February 2011 safari, comments, “Adding exercise to a safari is ideal for people who want to continue their exercise practice while on vacation. What a great way to start the day before your game drives. If you come with an open mind, you can leave with a new way of looking at the world.”
In addition to the daily exercise class, the trip offered all that is to be expected with an African dream vacation: visits to Lake Nakuru National Park, Masai Mara Game Reserve, Mount Kenya National Park, and Samburu Game Reserve. Potential wildlife sightings include: elephants, buffalo, antelope, water bucks, leopards, the endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rare Beisa Oryx and the blue-shanked Somali ostrich.
In all, Ujuzi Travel is offering four different Pilates safaris this year: 3 to Tanzania May 22 – 31 with Julie Fisher, May 30/31 – June 8 with Julie Gustafson, and July 31 – August 10 with Jill Wolf; and one to Kenya, September 18 – 27, with Mona Melms (her third Pilates safari for us!).
